Anthem Lights wouldn't make a song about following my own heart. But guys (I'm talking to AL here), seriously, the title makes some people shy away.
You shouldn't, though. LISTEN TO THIS SONG! And I'm giving you the opportunity right now, aren't you lucky? :)
This is not about following your own heart. No. It's actually about how the world tells us to do that very thing and it's folly. Instead, we need to follow GOD'S heart. (That's the "your" to which they are referring).
I really like this song and wish I'd discovered it much earlier.
I'll be honest, I'm a little disappointed/jealous that Anthem Lights didn't do a song for the Class of 2016, but this one is AWESOME!!!
Great song selection, perfectly stitched together, as usual. Seriously, these guys are geniuses at putting together songs that originally had nothing to do with one another.
This is one of the best mashups they've done in a while. Happy Listening!
I'm going to go listen to this again for the second time in 10 minutes. Don't judge :)
Spencer Kane is the new Anthem Lights guy but he was an artist before. I decided to look him up on Spotify and see what his solo stuff was like. I was blow away!
When I found out about Shane Harper, I wanted to like his music. My problem was that basically all his songs were about relationships. I'm not against that, but I don't like listening to an artist who only sings about love, especially when they're not married.
Spencer is not like Shane in that regard. He has fun songs, love songs, and songs about God. That last one is why I like his music so much. I like that he is a Christian artist who can make secular songs and Christian songs and make them both really well.
It's the same with Anthem Lights. I like their fun songs and even some of their covers, but my favorites will always be originals and specifically, originals with a Christian message.
Here is my Spencer Kane Spotify playlist. Happy Listening!
I am becoming a huge fan of Anthem Lights. They have songs that are just so funny (either lyrically or the video or both) and songs that have a great message. So here are a few more songs that are perfect examples of all of the above. Happy Listening!
"That's What I'm Looking For" is so encouraging to me personally. I have made the commitment to modesty and purity and, quite frankly, living differently from those around me is a struggle sometimes. This song - and others like it - tell me, "Yes, what you're doing is important." As a Christian, I try to live the way God wants me to because He wants me to, but at the same time, it is nice to know that it's acknowledged, you know? Not only does this song have a great message, but it's hilarious!
"I'm Not Going Anywhere" talks about unconditional love. It talks about opening up to each other as Christians and broken people and saying, "Yep, you messed up. But I'm going to stand with you, help you back up, and guide you back to God." We are not the judges of others; that's God's job. We are called to build one another up and continually point them to God and to His Word. (As an added bonus, Manwell Reyes from Group 1 Crew is in it too!)
"Love You Like The Movies" cracks me up! It is a sweet love song but also really funny. These guys make songs that cheer me up when I'm having a down day. I just can't help but smile :)
The irony is not lost on me that I don't really like/listen to love songs and I just posted three (!), but what I like about these songs is that they are realistic love songs. Not just mushy, gushy or "how will I live without you?" songs (they do have some of those and I don't really like them). I guess the last one kind of is, but it's so funny, it gets an exception. I just really appreciate the message that the first two songs portray.
So there's your dose of Anthem Lights. Hope you enjoyed the songs! (Perfect timing to post on Valentine's Day :)
I discovered two more great songs I had never heard by Anthem Lights. "The Unknown" really speaks to me because I can fear change and new things and this song will bring me great comfort when I get worried. Happy Listening!
I keep wishing Anthem Lights would make more Christian songs and I've discovered a new one! For me, it is a great reminder that we are in a spiritual battle all the time. Sometimes I forget and I think we all forget, so we need reminders like this song. Happy Listening!
For the K-Love Fan Awards the last year and this year, they have had the band Anthem Lights do a mash-up of the Song of the Year Nominees. These guys are super talented and they do great mash-ups. I hope they keep on doing it This year's in particular has some awesome songs in it. . Happy Listening!
P.S. Listen through the end, they have a really funny ending. I love these guys; they crack me up with their goofiness :) For your enjoyment, here is last year's mash-up.
